Shawn Riley heads the CSCSS Cyber Science Directorate and is an expert in cyber attack analysis. Shawn’s passion and drive is about helping the people conducting cyber defense to advance their tradecraft knowledge. Shawn focuses on sharing knowledge about cybersecurity science, cyber attack analysis, and cyber threat intelligence with the international community.
Shawn has more than 2 decades of cybersecurity, CNO, and cyber threat intelligence experience within the defense and intelligence community. Shawn has been recognized as a Senior Fellow by Lockheed Martin and as a Cybercrime expert by the UK Government. Shawn also has a passion for research aimed at helping the people and organizations conducting cyber defense to be more effective and efficient.

Research 2014-2015 Summary
Shawn Riley and the Cyber Science Directorate conducted research aimed at developing scientific foundations for the operational cybersecurity ecosystem. This research was specifically aimed at providing the people conducting cyber defense with a scientific body of cybersecurity knowledge based on the fusion of individual evidence-based statements collected from the operational cybersecurity with full provenance to support evaluation of the evidence source’s trustworthiness (human or machine).
The research also needed to align to and take advantage of existing national and international cybersecurity efforts being pursued by government such as the Science of Security, Measurable Security, and Automation to move analytics, reasoning, and inference to machine speed.
