WASHINGTON, D.C, LONDON, UK, April 24, 2014 - The Office of the Chair for the Cyber Intelligence Conference / CIUSA USA and the Center for Strategic Cyberspace + Security Science (CSCSS) is pleased to announce that (Ret) Gen Michael Hayden will be the Keynote Speaker on “Strategies for Cyber Environment” on 20 June 2014.
General Hayden’s keynote reflects global perspectives and will provide government, private sector, and research and academic leaders with clear, sophisticated, and far-sighted opinion of real-world challenges and potential solutions (and foreseeable risks) critical to determining sound Global Cyber Policies and Strategies.
General Hayden will also moderate a Distinguished Leader’s Panel on Strategic Planning and Climate for Quantum Change in Cybersecurity. This panel comprises select policy makers in academic, private sector, and non-governmental settings who will identify a Strategic Roadmap on Cybersecurity that underlies near-, mid-, and long-term approaches connected to “actionable decisions”. Formulating and implementing decisions without knowledgeable discussion and debate of all three approaches risks extremely unreliable research and experimentation with rapid global communications.
General Hayden’s tenure as Director, Central Intelligence Agency (2006 – 2009), First Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence (2005 – 2006) and Director, National Security Agency (1999 – 2005) provides a unique insider’s perspective on how rapid global communications present serious policy, strategy, and legal issues that have yet to be effectively addressed because of the absence of well-founded national and international frameworks that classify such events and regulate appropriate type of national and international response.
General Hayden’s extensive knowledge and experience on the realities of the threat spectrum and technology gaps, as well as coordination and governance, come at the most opportune time with recent cyber events and will be an invaluable resource for delegates of the CIUSA Conference.
Dr. Amit K. Maitra, CSCSS Senior Vice President, International Cyber Law & Policy and Chair, remarked: “Cyberspace extends nearly seamlessly across most international borders. Given what we are witnessing in cyberspace across the world today, there is an urgent need to identify “actionable decisions” that lead to practical policies and strategies. If policies and strategies are to be practical, they must contain elements of near-, mid-, and long-term planning based on integrated domestic and global policies and strategies. Within the U.S. government, coordination of cybersecurity policies and strategies has been an evolving issue. While at CIA, DNI, and NSA, General Hayden played a major role in developing the U.S. Strategic Roadmap on Cybersecurity. His Keynote and further contribution in the Distinguished Leader’s Panel during the conference will provide insight into the challenges and complexities inherent in shaping domestic and international cyber policies and strategies. We are indeed fortunate to have him as the Keynote Speaker”.
David Nordell, CSCSS Vice President for International Cyber Strategy and Policy, remarked ““Michael Hayden is one of the few top intelligence professionals in the world with a deep understanding of cyber, whether in gathering and analyzing data about current and future threats, or in understanding the vulnerabilities of both our enemies and our own side, or indeed the more controversial issue of how to balance the needs of protecting free societies from danger while at the same time not endangering our freedoms ourselves. His contribution to this conference will be enormous.”
Richard Zaluski, CSCSS President, CEO, and CSCSS Intelligence Committee Associate Chair, remarked: “CSCSS welcomes General Hayden. I know that his wealth of experienced will contribute to the vibrant discourse of the Centre and CIUSA. All of our CSCSS intelligence staff and CISUA delegates look forward to the opportunity to learn from the Generals years of experience as a leader on the global stage on strategy and Policy”
