Press Release - The Centre for Strategic Cyberspace + Security Science | CSCSS Announces its Official Launch
London - March 9, 2012
The Centre for Strategic Cyberspace + Security Science is pleased to announce its official launch as a first-of-its-kind, strategic cyberspace think tank.
CSCSS is determined to tackle threats on a global level with our focus on the international aspects of cyberspace and security. This will be achieved by collaborating with public-private sector and interagency partners, and leveraging the use of research and resources. We will drive cyber security to focus on key issues, infrastructures, and coordinated preventative and responsive activities.
The CSCSS vision is to ensure that cyberspace remains open to innovation and the free flow of ideas, information, and expression. Our mission is to conduct high-quality, credible, independent research, and provide innovative, focused, realistic recommendations and initiatives.
“Being a premier strategic centre for cyberspace, cyber warfare research and development, cyber science, and information dominance was not our goal. It was our starting point,” said Richard Zaluski, Founder, President, and CEO of CSCSS. “In the global forum, we are the only independent, multilateral, not-for-profit, cyberspace and security science group in operation, working to generate international strategies and scientific research that clearly articulates strategic priorities, goals, and objectives,” he went on to add. “As an organization, CSCSS delivers a globally-focused, well-defined, strategic objective. We present clear cyber and cyberspace-based security goals for government and the public-private sector. That is our focus. That is CSCSS.”
CSCSS focuses on cyberspace defence, cyber warfare, defence intelligence, cyber science and security, national/regional cyber security, the protection of critical infrastructures, and transnational challenges ranging from geopolitical cyber security issues to the strategic cyber development of international legal and policy frameworks.
“CSCSS fills the void of consensus over many issues that continue to languish unanswered or resolved in the area of strategic cyberspace philosophy, doctrine, and operational knowledge among governments and industry leaders worldwide. Both foreign and domestic defence and Intel communities find value in this knowledge. Our organization provides much more rapid time-to-advantage for decision-makers interested in answers to nagging questions that truly make a big difference in diplomacy, legal issues, military advantage, and/or technical prowess,” said Clinton Stewart, Senior Vice President for Defence and Intelligence.
The Centre will operate internationally and is headquartered in London, United Kingdom, with regional offices in a variety of locations. This provides CSCSS with a strong global footprint and effective reach into potential strategic partnerships at varied levels.
The CSCSS Enterprise Technology + Security (ET+S) Consortium provides information systems assurance and information security engineering and architecture services to promote the secure design and development of information services, technologies, communications, products, and systems to ensure the certification and accreditation requirements of relevant national security authorities are met.
“Leveraging cyber scientific outcomes for IA practitioner gain is an essential component of the CSCSS mission as we pursue funded partnerships for universities and information assurance consultancies in structured, joint working programs. Within ET+S, the iGRC Consortium has delivered a real-time risk management capability. Greater interoperability between network sensors and the Proteus information security management system is now available. This contributes to protective monitoring and embeds well-defined defensive processes enterprise wide. Information security risk professionals are now able to prepare firms for critical infrastructure dynamic risk operations. Through CSCSS, they can be informed by universities that excel in the information security space," said Mike Popham, Executive Vice President, Enterprise Technology + Security Consortium.
CSCSS, through its varied programs, will establish coordinated cyber leadership, improving GRC, and developing, coordinating, integrating, and synchronizing cyberspace operations and resources.
“In a rapidly changing world where security is all too often seen as a cost function and left until too late, we are doing far too little to train those who will have to maintain the front line effort in years to come,“ said Craig Wright, Executive Vice President, Strategic Development. “Globally and digitally, we are converging and moving into a system of systems that will become ever more connected and complex. This will require strategy and deep thought, and CSCSS hopes to help shape the minds that will solve the problems in our ever expanding world,” he added.
The Centre will execute cyber activities, creating synergy to defend the cyberspace information security environment, while promoting CSCSS as a capable and respected international leader in cyberspace, cyber warfare, information dominance and defence, cyber security, and research and development.
