Cyber-Intelligence Advisory Possible Attacks on Financial Networks

The Russian – Ukraine confict over Crimea has reached a stage where western countries, notably the United States and the European Union, are imposing economic sanctions on Russia. To date the confict has seen limited use of Russia's cyber-warfare capabilities. Most of the cyber- activity has been Denial of Service attacks ( DDoS ) and some web site defacing. There have been indications that Russian controlled cyber-networks are being activated.

On February 4th NBC news published “Hacked within Minutes: Sochi Visitors Face Internet Minefield”. Probes against their honeypot devices commenced within one minute of connecting to the Internet. Given the scope and capability of the compromise within Russia, and within the Russian security envelope, it is ASSESSED that the Sochi Olympics will be used as an opportunity to infect foreign systems.
